Lead stronger crews.
Lead stronger crews.
A great coxswain does more than call the race plan. They read the boat, recognise what the crew needs and communicate in a way that helps rowers respond.
At Ready Set Row, coxswains work directly with coaches to develop the technical understanding, tactical thinking and leadership skills to make a difference in the boat. Through practical experience, feedback and mental skills training, they learn to lead their crew while building confidence in their own decisions.

I am so greatful and thankful to the RSR program as it has changed my life in ways I never expected.

RSR26 Elite Athlete
I am a stronger leader and teammate because of this experience and can’t wait for to bring the skills I’ve learned from this camp to college rowing.

RSR Elite Athlete
Thank you so much for a challenging, crazy difficult, fun, and rewarding camp.

Tactical thinking.
Leadership under pressure.
At RSR, coxswains receive specialised coaching and regular feedback to help them understand what’s happening in the boat, decide what the crew needs and communicate it effectively.
01
Learn what to look for, listen for and feel so you can identify technical opportunities and help rowers make meaningful changes.
02
Develop your race strategy, refine your calls and learn how timing, tone and language can help a crew respond.
03
Build the mental skills to manage nerves, stay focused and make clear decisions when training or racing gets tough.
Say more with every call.
RSR coxswains receive hands-on coaching on and off the water. You’ll practise identifying what a crew needs, receive feedback on your decisions and develop the skills to turn a coach’s direction into effective action.
Learn to recognise technical issues and opportunities in the boat—and how to use clear, well-timed instructions to help athletes make changes.
Record and transcribe race pieces, then review your calls with coaches. Receive feedback on your language, timing and tactics, along with input from the rowers in your boat.
Shadow coaches during land training and learn how to support individual athletes on the erg. Practise offering useful corrections and helping rowers work through challenging moments.
Learn to interpret a coach’s instructions, communicate their vision to the crew and help put the plan into practice. You’ll also develop your understanding of equipment and rigging.
Build the skills to communicate with coaches and teammates, give constructive feedback and adapt your approach to different rowers and crews.
Learn practical strategies to manage pressure, regulate your emotions and recover from mistakes—so you can stay focused and make safe, clear decisions.
Train alongside athletes and work directly with RSR coaches to develop the skills to lead a crew. From technical observation and race planning to communication and mental skills, you’ll receive practical coaching and feedback throughout the camp.
